WASH is the collective term for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. Due to their interdependent nature, these three core issues are grouped together to represent a growing sector. While each a separate field of work, each is dependent on the presence of the other. For example, without toilets, water sources become contaminated & without clean water, basic hygiene practices are not possible.

GITA-SAR works with diversified stakeholders including Indian and International Donors Agencies, Government, Corporates, and Financial Institutions.

We strive for Clean, Secure & Energy Efficient Neighbourhoods

SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT:

India generates approximately 62 million tons of waste annually, with urban areas contributing a large portion. The responsibility of solid waste removal is mandated as an obligatory function of local governments; however, solid waste management (SWM) emerges as a major challenge for numerous urban local bodies (ULBs) in India, especially in cities characterised by high population density. Our work includes;

• Installing 620KWp+103 solar power panels in district hospitals & PHC and 60 streetlights

• Renewable energy solutions for sustainable development of rural villages, installing streetlights (LED & Solar) in different parts of India

• Plastic waste management, creating livelihoods and market for supply chain & Improving lives of waste workers through scheme linking under Utthaan project.

• We have worked with women who play an essential role in solid waste management (SWM) systems, often leading community driven initiatives to improve waste disposal and recycling processes. Our waste management programs create employment opportunities for women, especially in the informal sector;

• In our SWM projects, more than 80% of our waste workers are women, who are involved in waste collection, sorting & segregation, and recycling. We are providing a platform for these women workers to enhance their skills and better their earning capacities through our training programs and improving forward linkages. Approx. 35,000 female waste workers trained till date;

• 5 women SHGs were formed as ‘Nari Shakti’ in Amritsar, trained in making handmade herbal color (Gulal), while some decided to take up composting of Municipal wet waste as an additional source of income;

• In Amritsar and UP, we worked for social inclusion of approx. 14000 waste workers with UNDP, from which 40% were female, and mostly informal. We linked them with social security schemes, organised health camps, etc.

We strive to make students conscious of choices, competent capable and confident to face the world with diginity, respect and responsibility for their ecosystem

In this system, students (referred to as shishyas) lived with their teacher (known as the guru) in an ashram-like setting, which often was situated in a natural, peaceful environment away from urban areas in sync with nature. The word "Gurukul" is derived from two Sanskrit words: Guru (teacher or master) and Kul (family or home), signifying the close-knit familial relationship between the teacher and students.
