WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene)

WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene)

Ensuring Every Child’s Right to Safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

Access to water and sanitation is more closely linked to human development than any other factor—including health, education, or energy services. Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) aims to ensure universal access to safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation. Achieving this requires adequate investment in infrastructure, sanitation facilities, and promotion of hygiene practices at all levels.

Our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programme is a comprehensive initiative designed to create child-friendly environments that include clean toilets, handwashing stations, and hygiene education. These interventions not only benefit children directly but also ripple through communities, fostering widespread behavioural change and better health outcomes.

Our Impact:

  • We have facilitated access to over a million household toilets across India, significantly contributing to the reduction of open defecation.
  • Our inclusive approach supports marginalised rural and peri-urban communities by equipping them with knowledge, awareness, and access to financial services for investing in WASH infrastructure.
  • In partnership with schools, our programmes educate children on personal hygiene, ensuring that they grow up healthy and can attend school regularly.
  • We build and renovate toilets in schools and communities, providing critical infrastructure to end open defecation and promote dignity and safety—especially for girls and women.

  • Grassroots Engagement:

To deepen our reach and impact, we collaborate with grassroot microfinance institutions that offer credit for water and sanitation improvements. Our implementation partners receive support for:

  • Technology assistance
  • Capacity building
  • Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns that raise awareness and stimulate demand for safe sanitation.
